Film School at M-Theory Music

Film School dropped by M-Theory Music to play a short set prior to their show at the Beauty Bar. The last time I saw an in-store performance by Film School at Fingerprints they had all their gear setup and blew the doors off Fingerprints. Film School has been on tour and have continually honed their live chops as evidenced from their growth from their show at Spaceland and the first show to start their tour at the Detroit Bar. Their perfomance at M-Theory was stripped down as it was just Greg Bertens(Vocals/Guitars),Dave Dupuis(Guitars), and Lorelei Plotczyk on backing vocals. Greg strummed the delicate chords of "Two Kinds" as Dave carefully added noise flourishes in a soft version of the song. I was not surprised how well the songs stood up in their stripped down presentation. "Plots and Plans" featured Lorelei's airy vocals and I could tell that Greg and Dave wanted to crank up their amps but the tension of not wanting to get too loud gave the song a great dynamic. "Like You Know" had Greg going it solo for the most part with Dave adding haunting reverb washes. When it came time for "Dear Me", Greg warned the crowd that they were going to let loose. He lived up to his words as the decibel meter started to climb. It was a great appetizer to the main course at the Beauty Bar.
