Headway at the House of Blues Sunset

The hang over from Coachella had barely cleared up as Musexpo descended upon West Hollywood. Musexpo is a large music showcase that highlights various international bands whilst the movers and shakers in the music business collaborate on future business endeavors. Amy Winehouse and Keane apparently got their start by performing at Musexpo.

I stopped by the House Of Blues Sunset to check out a hotly tipped new British band by the way of Hucknall, Nottingham. The gentlemen of Headway won over the predominantly industry crowd with their propulsive guitars and soaring anthems. David Wright (Vocals/Guitars) led the charge for Headway with his engaging stage presence while he strummed his Gibson SG. Tom Harrison (Keyboards) was surrounded by his three keyboard setup that included a Nord Stage, Kurzweil PC and a Korg Triton adding textures of piano to fill their dense songs. "Safety" had a staircase winding guitar riff that built up until the chorus kicked into overdrive. They closed their set with an accelerated version of "Finish What We Started" as David Astbury (Bass) often held up his Fender Bass as he plucked away. The crowd reaction from the industry folks was positive and lined with adoring female fans near the stage. I was hoping they could have played longer then their scheduled thirty minute set but the curtains quickly were activated.
