Architecture In Helsinki at the Troubadour
Architecture In Helsinki continued my streak of Australian bands as I caught one of their two nights at the Troubadour.
Glass Candy hailing from Portland dropped by to deliver their sleazy electro disco ball infused dance jams. Ida No (Vocals/Dance moves) was pulling out all the '80s dance moves similar to Olivia Newton John as Johnny Jewel (Keyboards/programming) was stationed in front of his Korg MS2000 keyboard laying down. I was impressed by their cover of Kraftwerk's "Computer Love".
The Troubadour stage could barely contain all the members of Architecture in Helsinki. The stage was littered with some impressive gear like a Moog Little Phatty, a Roland Juno, bongos, trombone and an assortment of guitars and basses. Architecture In Helsinki brings a festive atmosphere to stage as they played selections off their latest release "Places Like These" and "In Case We Die". Their influences range all over the place from rock, reggae, electro, indie, and ska. They also gave a shout out to their Australian forefathers with a cover of Mental As Anything's "Live It Up". I think Australia needs to put on a super tour of Muscles, The Presets, Wolfmother, Powderfinger, Crowded House, and Architecture In Helsinki together.
